Director, Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)

Location: Toronto (remote-friendly within Ontario)
Industry: Software and Technology Investments

About the Opportunity

A privately backed investment firm is seeking a Director of Mergers & Acquisitions to lead the sourcing, evaluation, and execution of software acquisitions across North America.

The firm acquires and operates niche B2B software companies and is building a modern investment platform focused on long-term value creation. This is an opportunity to join a small, high-performing team and work directly with experienced investors and operators who have built and scaled successful technology businesses.

You will play a central role in managing the full deal process from diligence through close, while helping shape how the firm evaluates and integrates new portfolio companies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end deal execution including financial modeling, valuation, due diligence, and coordination with legal, tax, and accounting advisors

  • Partner with senior leadership on deal structuring, negotiation strategy, and investment recommendations

  • Manage multiple concurrent workstreams, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met across transactions

  • Collaborate with the origination team on early-stage assessments and support post-close integration activities

  • Build and refine repeatable processes for diligence and execution as the M&A function grows

  • Develop deep expertise in evaluating small, profitable software and technology businesses

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 5 to 10 years of total experience in investment banking, private equity, corporate development, or corporate finance

  • Proven experience running or significantly contributing to buy-side M&A processes

  • Strong analytical, modeling, and valuation skills

  • Excellent communication and project management abilities

  • Comfortable working with small, founder-led businesses and navigating ambiguity or incomplete data

  • Thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment that values autonomy and accountability

Nice to Have

  • Experience evaluating vertical market or recurring revenue software businesses

  • Exposure to lower middle market transactions (5 to 20 million range)

  • Background in Big Four Corporate Finance (not Transaction Services) or similar advisory environments

Compensation

  • Base salary: 140,000 - 150,000

  • Target total compensation: 200,000 to 220,000 CAD (deal-based performance bonuses)

  • Bonus structure tied to successful deal completions

Why This Role

This position offers the chance to work directly with seasoned dealmakers in a growing investment platform. You will gain full-cycle M&A experience, contribute to active acquisitions, and help build a scalable acquisition function within a team that values ownership, learning, and results.

If you are a mid-career professional looking to move beyond large, process-heavy environments and take meaningful responsibility in a fast-moving investment firm, this opportunity may be a strong fit.
